Extended Cyber Sales

December 6, 2008

I never heard of Cyber Monday before this year, or maybe I did and I just didn’t know what it was…Well, as I opened up my email Dec 1, the Monday after Black Friday; there were all these cyber Monday deals/. Also, when I logged on to Yahoo the main news story was about Cyber Monday. I did find a good deal on a coat, but other than that I didn’t buy anything else. I did see some good deals though. Now it is the Saturday after Cyber Monday and I am still receiving emails about this cyber event. Apparently Cyber Monday has been extended and cyber sales have been happening all week. I did notice on one site the sale was for 30% off on Cyber Monday, but now all items are 20% off instead.

Marketers really take advantage of the holiday season by promoting events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Without the hype stimulated by marketers would these shopping events have as much hype as they do now? Would they be as successful? Would there even be a proper name (ie. Black Friday, Cyber Monday)?

the sales probably were extended because of less than expected sales, i think cyber monday excludes a lot of shoppers too, you have to have internet access, a credit card or debit card and you lose the whole shopping experience, its hard to try those jeans on over the internet.

How did I miss Cyber Monday? I haven’t heard of it, but as we evolve into a cyber world, I think it’s great! Soon internet access will be like cable television–everyone will have it. Cyber Monday is a great way for companies to reach niche markets. Afterall, we need companies to survive to pull our economy back together!

Compaines are trying to reach their sales goals for the year,so if extending the sales helps them get to this point, so be it. But I feel that no matter how long they extend the sales, consumers are still not buying. Many are choosing to save rather than spend. Some of the deals look impressive, but making through this recession looks a little bit better.

Well, I knew about cyber monday, but I think it’s somewhat of a rip off. Most sites only offer deals such as free shipping or some other discount you would most likely get if you just went to the store. I agree that the reason they probably extended sales was because of low sales. Alot of people spent their money on Black Friday so they didn’t have the time or money to shop online on a weekday!

Companies are trying to reach their sales goals for the year, so if they have to extend their sales to reach their goals, so be it. The reality is that consumers are not buying that much this holiday season. Many are choosing to cut back and save. The sales might be impressive, but making it through this recession paints a better picture.

Good point, the recession really is what people are looking at- there is just so much uncertainty in the air and economy that people are trying to save and not splurge this season.

They are doing ANYTHING to capture consumers to purchase these days. I have heard of Cyber Monday but these days many are saving their money no matter what sale is going on.
