As I sat at my desk today at work a text message came through to my phone from a phone number that I didn’t recognize. The message read, “Send txt message to landline phones with Text to Landline. Personalize your msg with new Record ur Name feature. Try it today. Call 781-577-6885. Std. rates apply.”
Ok, I’m thinking who is this company? How did they get my number? Why are they texting me? I put my cell phone number on the do not call registry, is there a registry for do not text message me? Why is this company sending me a random text about a service that I am not interested in? I’m just wondering is the new era of marketing, forcefully sending text messages to people’s cell phones about services that are no value to the consumer. I’m wondering if more text messages are to follow….Have you gotten any random marketing texts?

The text mgs are from Virgin Mobile. I called 888-322-1122 and had them take me off the call list. According the the rep I spoke with Sprint is an affiliate of Virgin Mobile. So I called Sprint and they confirmed that Virgin is a subsidiary of Sprint which by law authorizes them to contact you. However, the Sprint rep said that Sprint.com has a place where you can register your number on their do not contact list.

Thanks for that info Laura. I was wondering; who, how, what? I need to added to that list so that I will not be contacted. I also had no clue that Virgin was an affiliate of Sprint.

Sounds like text marketers have more research to do so that potential customers don’t feel violated.

I got a text message saying that I was eligible for $400 loan! But they also let me know that I could reply “STOP” and I wouldn’t receive any more messages. I don’t have sprint, I have T-Mobile and they have their own problems!!

I recently read online where T-Mobile were charging customers thousands of dollars on their phone bills. This was due to the switch from one of those companies (maybe U.S. Cellular) over to T-Mobile.
